The Prince George’s County Department of Environmental Resources (DER) has launched a Christmas tree recycling program for county citizens and residents, under which it will provide free Christmas tree collection and drop-off services.

The program allows residents to place their undecorated, live Christmas trees at curbside before 6:30 a.m. on their regularly scheduled collection day or bring them at no charge, to Prince George’s County Yard Waste Composting Facility or to the Brown Station Road Public Convenience Center.

While Prince George’s County Yard Waste Composting Facility will accept one Christmas tree per vehicle, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm

Brown Station Convenience Center will accept unlimited number of Christmas trees Monday through Saturday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.

DER deputy director Dennis Bigley said that this is an eco-friendly way to dispose of Christmas trees; every tree that is collected will be shredded and cured into mulch for annual Mulch Giveaway event that is held in the spring.
