The British Petrol Retailers Association has met with a multi-party group of Members of Parliament to inform them of the issues faced by independent petrol retailers in England, according to Petrol World.

The British Petrol Retailers Association (PRA) believes that the government must act to give a boost to the country’s fuel stations. A PRA spokesman said that structure plans must be developed by local authorities for the maintenance of forecourts.

He also said that while some rate relief was given to rural operators, urban operators are still awaiting such support, according to Petrol World.

Petrol World quoted the spokesman as saying that there is such a scheme through which the Scottish Executive assists forecourt retailers in Scotland with capital investment. The spokesman said that he hoped the UK government will create a similar scheme for England and Wales.
