POET – DSM’s first project, Project LIBERTY, is a commercial-scale, cellulosic ethanol plant and is likely to begin operations in Iowa in early 2014. The plant is expected to produce up to 25 million gallons per year corncobs, leaves, husk, and some stalk.

IRFA, which was founded in 2002, promoted renewable fuels industry growth through education, promotion, legislation and infrastructure development.

IRFA executive director Monte Shaw said that the addition of POET – DSM stipulates all three of Iowa’s commercial cellulosic ethanol facilities, which are under construction, are now part of IRFA.

"Defending the RFS and expanding ethanol demand through E15 will be critical for all cellulosic ethanol plants. IRFA works every day to achieve those goals," added Shaw.
