Brazilian oil and gas giant Petrobras has commenced production tests on the P-52 platform in the Roncador field of the Campos Basin, off the southeastern coast of Brazil.

The initial volume is set at 20,000 barrels per day and the full capacity of 180,000 barrels per day is expected to be achieved by mid-2008, according to the company.

The P-52 is a semi-submersible-type production unit and is installed 125km off the coast, at a water depth of 1,800 meters. In addition to light oil, the platform will produce 7.5 million cubic meters of natural gas per day.

The platform’s hull was built in Singapore, and its operating modules were made in Brazil. When in full operation, the platform will be interconnected to 18 production and 11 water injector wells.
