Developed by a local private firm – Laraib Energy, the New Bong Escape Hydropower Project is valued at around $215m.

This hydroelectric facility will generate clean electricity, which will be supplied to the national grid through a 132KV transmission line, under a 25 year power purchase agreement with National Transmission and Despatch Company.

Commenting on the project, Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said the new hydroelectric project may reduce power cuts in the nation over the future.

The New Bong Escape Hydropower Project is anticipated to reduce around 135,000 tons of oil imports worth $100m annually.
