PacifiCorp has completed nine new wind projects during the past two years, seven of which are located in Wyoming. In total, company-owned renewable energy facilities include 12 operating wind projects in Oregon, Washington and Wyoming, and the Blundell geothermal plant in Utah; providing a total generating capability of 957 MW. Additionally, PacifiCorp has 611 MW of contracted wind-powered generation from developers.
PacifiCorp’s generating resources are operated as an integrated system, supplying the needs of the company’s 1.7 million customers in all six Western states in which the company operates.
“In recent years, wind-powered electric generation is as cost-effective for customers as our new natural gas fueled generation,” said Mark Tallman, PacifiCorp’s vice president of renewable resource acquisition. “Together with our existing fleet of resources, these new wind projects are an important part of our plan to provide the electricity our customers need at competitive costs.”
“PacifiCorp is the largest utility owner of wind-powered generation in the nation when combined with our sister company, Iowa-based MidAmerican Energy Company,” Tallman said. “We’re the top two utilities when considered separately. Renewable energy is an important component of our diverse mix of generating resources required to meet our customers’ energy needs now and in the future.”
