OSRAM GmbH (OSRAM), a subsidiary of Siemens AG, has introduced a new bulb-shaped LED lamp with a screw base, Parathom Classic, which can fully replace a 40 Watt incandescent lamp in a few moves. However, the Parathom Classic requires just eight Watts to achieve the same light yield, i.e. 80% less energy. And with an average service life of 25,000 hours, it outlasts an incandescent lamp by a factor of 25. The LED lamp will be commercially available as of August 2009.
All told, every lamp will save almost EUR200 in electricity, as well as more than 400 kg of CO2 emissions. With the Parathom Classic, consumers can let the light of the future shine in their office or home. Mercury-free and free from UV and infrared radiation:
The Parathom Classic is compact, shatter-proof and resistant to vibrations, making it suitable for all conceivable uses. What’s more, the lamps are totally free from mercury and the light they produce contains no UV or infrared radiation. As they include an integrated electronic control system, the lamps must be disposed of as electronic scrap at the end of their service lives, for instance at communal recycling centres.
