E.On UK expects to commence construction of the Robin Rigg wind farm off the coast of Scotland next year, the company has said.

With 60 turbines of 3 MW each producing 180 MW, the project will be the UK’s largest offshore wind farm when it enters service in early 2009. Investments in the project will total about €500 million.

The development comes as E.On announces plans to build a large offshore wind farm in the North Sea some 40 km northwest of the East Frisian island of Juist.

E.On has taken over the project from Enova Group which will see 80 wind turbines, each rated at more than 3.5 MW, installed. Building and operating permits have already been obtained for 48 turbines, and applications have been filed for another 32.
