Leading Dutch energy company Nuon has released a statement reiterating that it does not currently support the proposed unbundling act, which is currently being debated in the lower house of the Dutch parliament.

The dramatic move from the leading energy supplier is a response to the assertion of Dutch newspaper Het Financieele Dagblad, which has reported that Nuon accepts the unbundling act.

In its statement Nuon said it will only be able to decide its definitive position when the contested unbundling act has been considered by both the lower and upper houses of parliament and has been published in the Bulletin of Acts, Orders and Decrees. Nuon is not ruling out any means whatsoever of opposing the bill.

Board chairman Ludo van Halderen says the company is focusing on the future. Nuon is a company that focuses pro-actively on developments in the energy market in the interests of its customers and other stakeholders.

Given the current developments in the political sphere and in our sector it is more necessary than ever that we take a view of our future prospects. This requires a broad investigation of the European energy market, both national and international.
