The Argentine government is pushing forward with plans to privatize its nuclear power industry. The country has two operating nuclear power stations and a third which is incomplete, Dow Jones reports.
Under the provisional schedule outlined by the government, bidding documents for the sale will be prepared at the beginning of this year. Offers will be expected by March and they will be opened in April.
The winner, based on the highest offer submitted, will receive the rights to the Atucha I and Embalse nuclear power plants. According to local estimates these two plants generate 12 per cent of Argentina’s power, valued at around $150 million each year.
The third plant, Atucha II, is also included in the deal. This is estimated to need a further $700 million to complete. The winning bidder will be expected to complete the plant and bring it into service.
