The transmission line upgrade, which began as part of the National Integrated Power Project (NIPP), will be executed in two phases – with the first phase covering Eket to Uyo likely to last for 40 days.

In 2005 and 2006, NIPP team started the work for this line but temporarily stalled between early 2007 and late 2009.

The existing transmission line has a capacity to transmit 70MW power from Ibom Power Plant – less than an optimum average of 173MW.

Currently, electricity is being provided to consumers in the state through a 132kV transmission line which runs from the power plant in the South through Eket and Uyo to Itu in the North.
