Electricity from the newly developed Bureya hydro power station has been supplied to the Primorsky Territory after a new 500 kV power transmission line began operations.
The Bureya-Khabarovsk-Primorye line will help supply power in the south of the Russian Far East. Another 500 kV power transmission line is being laid from the Bureya plant to Vladivostok and is scheduled to begin operations within three years.
The first unit of the Bureya plant, which is being built in the Amur region, began commercial operations in the summer of 2003. Four more units are due to begin operations this year with the fourth unit currently under testing. The fourth unit will bring capacity up to 335 MW. The main hydropower equipment was supplied by Sylovye Mashiny. Surplus electricity from the plant is to be exported to China and South Korea.
