A refurbishment contract worth over US$8.8M has been awarded to GE Hydro's Canadian branch for work on the New Melones hydro plant in California, US.

Under the terms of the contract, ge-hydro is to replace turbine runners for the two Francis hydro turbines with its own X-Blade technology, provide turbine overhauls, carry out model testing, procurement and manufacturing work.

The contract for New Melones, located on the Stanislaus river was awarded by the US Bureau of Reclamation’s mid-Pacific regional office.

The first unit will be in place by mid 2005, with the second expected to follow in 2006, according to GE Hydro.
