The US Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) has awarded Burke Electric of Bellevue, Washington a US$1M contract to replace eight large air compressors in the third power plant at Grand Coulee dam in eastern Washington.

Burke will remove the existing compressors and furnish and install new compressors along with associated piping and controls. The work is expected to be completed by October 2005.

Grand Coulee dam is located on the Columbia river and serves as the centerpiece of USBR’s Columbia Basin Project, where it provides water for irrigating more than 242,820ha of land and is North America’s largest hydroelectric facility.
