US-based Nestlé Waters North America (NWNA) has installed two wind turbines at its bottling plant in Cabazon, California.

The two 1.6MW GE wind turbines will generate 12,900,000KWh of electricity per annum and meet up to 30% of the facility’s energy requirements.

The wind facilities will also displace a combined 7,320t of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

NWNA sustainability vice president Michael Washburn noted that hosting wind turbines at the bottling plants is a key step for Nestlé Waters to enhance use of renewable energy.

"This latest effort in conjunction with our partnership with Foundation Windpower is consistent with our practices to reduce our environmental footprint," Washburn said.

NWNA produces Arrowhead and Nestlé Pure Life brand bottled waters and installed the turbines along the I-10 corridor in southern California under its long-term renewable energy plan.

The company partnered with the Morongo Band of Mission Indians and Foundation Windpower to install and commission the wind turbines.

Foundation Windpower chief executive officer Matt Wilson stated, "Nestlé Waters’ leadership in sustainability is an important example of how corporations can make a sizable difference in managing natural resources and creating job growth in the green sector."
