Nampower managing director Paulinus Shilamba said, "Van Eck will start running by the middle of next year with improved efficiency."

Located in Windhoek’s northern industrial area, the coal-fired station has been undergoing a $29 million refurbishment since 2012 and two of its units are due to be ready in February.

NamPower is the national power utility of Namibia and specialises in the generation and transmission of electricity.

NamPower’s main sources of power are the thermal, coal-fired Van Eck Power Station outside Windhoek, the hydroelectric plant at the Ruacana Falls in the Kunene Region, and the standby diesel-driven Paratus Power Station at Walvis Bay.
