The project in La Crete is being developed by Mustus and will generate enough electricity to power more than 30,000 Canadian homes.

Lockheed Martin will support Mustus in procuring materials, equipment and other required services, and it will also manage the construction of the power plant.

The power plant is expected to commence commercial operations by the fall of 2013 and will provide base-load electricity to the Alberta grid.

Lockheed Martin Canada president and general manager Tom Digan said the La Crete biomass plant will provide Alberta with a domestic, secure power source, while preserving the environment.
