MPX power plans to construct the 1.86GW Parnaíba thermo power plant in Brazil by the third quarter this year.

The company has received an installation license for the plant by state environmental authority Sema authorizing its construction in the exploratory block PN-T-68.

OGX Maranhão, a joint venture between MPX and sister company OGX, will supply natural gas to the power plant.

The plant has been designed to accommodate different technology configurations, including combined cycle and open cycle.

The facility is expected to be connected to the national interconnected power system by existing transmission lines.

The plant is expected to begin operation within two and a half years, reports bnamericas.com.

MPX part of the EBX holding group, holds 33% stake in OGX Maranhão, while sister company OGX holds 67% equity in the company.
