The construction works of the 4926m tunnel and the 156.7m long penstock tunnel for the 70MW Mid Marsyangdi hydroelectric project in western Nepal have been completed.

When operational, the Lamjung-based project should provide an average 393GWh/yr and will be the second largest power plant in Nepal.

Construction work on the project was launched in 2001 and was originally due to be completed by December 2004. However, work on the project has been hampered by security concerns relative to attacks from Maoist guerillas.

Germany has provided a development grant covering nearly 85% of the total project cost. Nepal is funding the remainder.
