Around 20 small and medium-size power plants are to be fast-tracked for development in Bangladesh following the approval of a high powered committee. Facing a peak demand of 3,800 MW which is currently creating a deficit of 500 – 700 MW, the 20 plants will have a capacity of 10 – 50 MW each.

The plants are expected to be developed on a Build-Own-Operate (BOO) basis and will be the responsibility of the private sector, particularly Bangladeshi enterprises. Nearly 800 MW of capacity is expected within a period of one year by putting in place these fast-track projects.
