Gaz Et L’Energie (GEL) has selected Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) to supply equipment for the proposed 500MW Humay power station project in Peru.
The scope of supply includes one M501JAC gas turbine, heat recovery steam generator, and steam turbine for the power plant, which is planned to be built in the Ica district, close to the city of Pisco, Peru.
Scheduled to be completed in 2020, the power plant will generate electricity required to power up to 500,000 homes and industrial customers.
MHPS president and CEO Paul Browning said: “Partnering with GEL to provide Peru with clean, dispatchable power is what MHPS is doing for utilities and Independent Power Producers on a global basis.
“Providing MHPS-TOMONI enabled equipment to the Humay Power Station will allow real-time digitization and analytics to enable plant operators to solve challenges and seize opportunities.”
In addition to reducing Peru’s’ dependence on inefficient, costly and outdated power generation, the new power plant will help the country meet its aim to modernize and diversify the national power grid.
GEL general manager Nicholas Green said: “Our goal is to help modernize and diversify the power grid and adding the MHPS JAC does just that. The MHPS JAC sets a new standard for efficiency, reliability and low-cost electricity.”
MHPS said that the air-cooled advanced class gas turbine will help customer to meet its goal of providing efficient, reliable power with low water consumption and emissions.
Separately, an REP-owned electric substation is also planned to be built to connect the power plant to the national grid system.
