Finland-based Metso Corporation will supply a biomass-fired power plant to Vimmerby Energi & Miljö (VEMAB) for combined heat and power production at Tallholmen, Sweden.

The delivery will include a power plant employing bubbling fluidized bed combustion technology with the plant’s automation to be based on Metso DNA technology.

Metso will also supply a flue gas condenser; as well as handling installation, training and commissioning the plant expected to be operational by the end of 2014.

The boiler plant, which employs local forest residues such as bark and wood chips as fuel, will have a thermal output of 26MW and an electrical output of 7MW; electricity by the plant will be fed into the national grid.

VEMAB project manager Mats-Lennart Karlsson said that the company has chosen Metso as the supplier as it can deliver a solid industrial-scale combined heat and power boiler with multiple types of energy.

Metso Power Business Line Sales director Mikael Barkar added, "This is a very important order for us and we are confident that the plant will meet all the client’s expectations."
