Mavel a.s. (Mavel), a Czech Republic-based producer of turbines and related products for hydro electric power plants, has received an approval to supply turbines to the Lovosice-Pistany I project in the Czech Republic. As per the agreement, Mavel will supply four Kaplan turbines and related equipment for the Lovosice-Pistany I plant. In addition, the company has also received a contract for units at the Kuokkastenkoski plant in Finland.

RenoEnergie will develop the Lovosice-Pistany I plant on the river Elbe. The low head (1.9 m) plant will be operational by the third quarter of 2010. The turbines are 3 meter in diameter with three runner blades. The total flow through the plant will be 160m3/sec.

Mavel will supply two Kaplan turbines and some related equipment to Vaasa Engineering for the 1.76MW Kuokkastenkoski plant, in Finland. The 880 kW units will have runner diameters of 1.45m and five blades. The Kuokkastenkoski plant has a net head of 10 m with total flow of 20m3/sec. Pohjois-Karjalan Sahko will develop the Kuokkastenkoski plant. This plant will be completed by the end of 2010.

The other additional equipments in these contracts include generators, electrical and control systems and trash racks.
