The multi-million euro contract will be delivered for independent energy production company Thika Power Limited, a subsidiary of Matelec Group.

MAN Diesel & Turbo CEO René Umlauft the African continent offers huge potential for its power plants unit.

"Our power plant solutions can help to bridge the existing energy supply gap in many parts of the continent swiftly and smoothly," said Umlauft.

The plant will employ MAN Diesel & Turbo’s diesel combined cycle product package and five MAN 18V48/60 four-stroke engines to produce electricity.

An additional 6.8MW of electricity will be generated by a MAN MARC2 steam turbine, which will be powered by waste heat from the engines.

Work has already begun and the plant is expected to come online in 2013.
