A 1000 km extension transmission line will start this month, linking Brazil’s two hydro systems. Called Line North South, the project has a maximum capacity of 1000 MWe, and is intended to optimise and interconnect the country’s North-Northeastern system with the Centre-Southeastern-Southern system. Seventy per cent of Brazil’s population is supplied by the latter system.
The line starts in Imperatriz in the Northeastern state of Maranhao, and ends at the hydro plant of Serra da Mesa, in Goias state.
