Indian conglomerate Lanco Infratech has been awarded a contract to develop Tasra coal mine by Steel Authority of India (SAIL).

Lanco stated in a BSE filing that it has emerged as the winning bidder by SAIL for the development, mining and operation of Tasra Open Cast Project.

Under the new project, Lanco will extract coal at the mine located at Jharia in Jharkhand, India. The mine has geological reserves of nearly 250 million tons, reported PTI.

The project also comprises establishment of a coal washery.

In addition, Lanco will also develop and operate a captive power project for SAIL.
