The Senate Committee on energy, transport and roads in Kenya has urged the federal government to commit funds to finance geothermal exploration to facilitate low-tariff electricity in the country.

The committee stated asked the authorities to extend support to the developers undertaking geothermal exploration across various locations.

Committee chairman and Baringo County Senator Gideon Moi was quoted by Standard Digital as saying that the geothermal facilities in Menengai and Baringo, once fully operational, will reduce electricity tariffs.

"The committee is extremely encouraged and pleased by the work Geothermal Development Company is doing in Nakuru and Baringo counties. We will stand with them," added Moi.
