Pavlodar Oil Chemical Refinery (POCR), a Kazakhstan-based KazMunaiGas company, has selected UOP’s technology to modernize its oil refinery in the country.

The revamped units are expected to begin operations in 2015 and process 7.5 million metric tons of crude feedstock annually to produce gasoline and diesel.

POCR will use a number of UOP’s processes and services to upgrade its refining facility located in Northeast Kazakhstan Province and meet the Euro-5 standards aimed at reducing motor vehicle pollution.

UOP Process Technology and Equipment business unit senior VP and GM Pete Piotrowski said the company is expecting high return on the investments for UOP’s technology suite and services.

"UOP technology will play a large role in POCR’s modernization efforts, which will improve its production capacity and help meet strict fuel standards," added Piotrowski.

The technologies to be used for the refinery modernization project are: UOP Penex process, UOP CCR Platforming process, UOP Fluid Catalytic Cracking process, UOP Vacuum Gas Oil Unionfining process, UOP Caustic Merox process, UOP Coker Naphtha Unionfining process, and UOP Distillate Unionfining process.
