The joint venture will be a 50/50 partnership between JA Solar and MEMC’s affiliate, MEMC Singapore.
In phase I of the power project, the JV will build a production facility with a capacity of 250MW of photovoltaic cells which will be located at JA Solar’s Yangzhou site.
The phase I production facility is expected to begin commercial production in the second half of 2011.
The companies claimed that in later phases, total production capacity may be expanded up to 1GW.
JA Solar is a manufacturer of high-performance solar power products.
MEMC is a US manufacturer of silicon wafers for the semiconductor industry.
