The Inter-American Investment Corporation (IIC), a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group, has sanctioned a loan of up to $10m for 48MW Hidrosanbartolo hydropower project in Ecuador.

The $55m run-of-river hydroelectric project will be located on the Rio Negro in the southeastern province of Morona-Santiago, reports the hydroworld.com.

Hidrosanbartolo project will comprise intake structure, a low-level diversion weir, penstock, steel pipe conveyance, surface power station, transmission line and power substation.

The length of the project is 5,500 meters, with a net head of 183 meters.

Last year, IIC had sanctioned a loan of about $7.2m loan to Empresa de Generacion Electrica Canchayllo to develop, build and operate a 5.26MW mini hydroelectric plant on the Pachacayo river in Peru.
