JSC Institute Hydroproject, part of RusHydro Group, has begun work on the modernization of Kamskaya hydroelectric project, an important part of the Volga-Kama cascade in Central Russia (Urals).

So far, 17 vertical hydraulic units from the 23 units at the project have been already upgraded. JSC Institute Hydroproject will develop the all-inclusive modernization project taking into consideration previous reconstruction of hydroturbines, hydro and auxiliary equipment, hydro units, dams and the Kama powerhouse building.

The new modernization project is expected to increase the safety and reliability of the project by ensuring it meets the technical requirements put into force following the accident at Sayano-Shushensky hydroelectric project. Work is to be completed in 2014.
