The three plants are launched under the government’s 10,000MW electricity crash programme, which was started in June 2006. As reported, the three power plants are located in Labuan in Banten province, Rembang in Central Java and Indramayu in West Java.

The three plants–the 2x300MW Labuan power plant, the first unit of the 300MW Rembang power plant, and the first unit of the 300MW Indramayu power plant–are expected to be completed next month, while the second units of the Rembang and the Indramayu power plants are expected to be completed in March 2010.

Indonesia is now taking steps to increase electricity supplies through the crash programme led by PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), the country’s state electricity company. It is also preparing to begin the second phase of the 10,000MW programme.

Darwin Saleh, minister of energy and mineral resources, Indonesia, has been quoted by The Jakarta Post as saying: “A presidential decree governing the project is being drafted. The programme will be launched as part of the Cabinet’s 100 days programmes.”
