Spanish utility Iberdrola said that it has inspected around 77,300km of its transmission lines in Spain this year to reinforce security of power supply.

The company checked the very high-, high- and medium-voltage lines used to supply peak summer and winter electricity demand.

Iberdrola carried out a rapid inspection of 16,300km of lines, a routine review of more than 31,100km, a thorough inspection of 7,100km and conducted an infrared analysis of 21,600km.

The inspection campaign is to detect potential problems in the components such as insulators, conductors, iron fittings and pylons caused by lightning, fallen trees, construction work or buildings close to the lines.
