The 50MW wind power facility will be located in the municipality of San Marcos de Colón, 140km south of the Honduran capital Tegucigalpa and close to the border with Nicaragua.

Under the €62m contract, Iberdrola’s subsidiary will be responsible for engineering, procurement, construction and start-up of the wind farm.

The subsidiary will also construct an electrical substation and a 40km power line for uploading energy to the grid.

For the wind power facility, Gamesa will supply 25 G90 model wind turbines with a unit power of 2MW each, with a hub height of 78m and a rotor diameter of 90m.

The Grupo Terra-owned San Marcos wind farm will would provide electricity for around 100,000 Honduras homes and will create about 200 jobs during the construction process.

Earlier, Iberdrola, in consortium with Gamesa, constructed the 102MW Cerro de Hula wind project located around 24km south of Tegucigalpa, in the municipalities of San Buena Ventura and Santa Ana.
