The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has entered into a two year partnership with Bonneville Power Administration to rehabilitate and upgrade its old hydro-power stations, such as the 50 year old Laxapana site, with the object of extending their life spans by up to 30 years. CEB will be relying heavily on BPA’s expertise in hydro-power generation, transmission and distribution, gained from its system capacity of 20 GW, mainly in hydropower. The agreement covers technical assistance and administration, particularly in distribution, an area in which CEB feels it is weak. BPA has agreed to offer its assistance at minimum cost.
