In early September, rebels from the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia occupied the Alto Anchicaya hydroelectric plant, near the regional capital of Cali in southwestern Colombia, for five days.

The rebels held 40 employees and several journalists hostage, demanding a reduction in the cost of electricity. The guerrillas ended the occupation of the hydro plant releasing all hostages and retreating into nearby mountains, power officials said. The region’s power supply was not affected and there was no reported violence.
