Lower Austria, Austria’s largest state has said that 100% of its electricity is now generated using renewable sources of energy.

As reported by Agence France Presse, the state has invested US$3B in projects such as solar parks and refurbishing hydroelectric stations on the River Danube since 2002. The state in northeastern Austria now gets 63% of its electricity from hydroelectric power, 26% from wind, 9% from biomass and 2% from solar.

The announcement comes ahead of a gathering of COP21 when world leaders will meet in Paris in December to discuss ambitious global deals to tackle climate change.
