German power giant RWE is planning to install two gas turbines at the 836 MW lignite-fired Mátra station near Visonta in Hungary.

A consortium of RWE, Energie Baden-Württemberg (EnBW) and Hungarian partners MVM will develop the euro 65 million project, which are due to operate from the end of 2006 or early 2007. The turbines are expected to increase the performance of the station by roughly 10%.

Mátra produces round about 14% of Hungarian demand.
