Siemens has received two major orders for its offshore wind power business. The company is to supply, install and commission 102 x 7MW wind turbines for the East Anglia ONE project.

Siemens has received two major orders for its offshore wind power business. The company is to supply, install and commission 102 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 7 MW and a rotor diameter of 154 metres, for the East Anglia ONE project. The customer is ScottishPower Renewables, a subsidiary of Iberdrola S.A. The 714 MW wind power plant will be the largest project in terms of capacity for Siemens so far and represents the largest single order to date for its direct-drive 7 MW WTG.
Siemens has also won the contract for servicing the wind farm, which is expected to become operational in 2020, for an initial period of five years.
The East Anglia ONE array is to be erected around 45 km off the British east coast over an area of 300 square km. The 102 WTGs, of type SWT-7.0-154, will be installed on jacket foundations. The nacelles are to be manufactured in Cuxhaven, Germany, with the blades being produced at Siemens’ UK facility in Hull. The first wind turbines are scheduled to be installed in the summer of 2019.
This marks the second offshore wind project between Siemens and ScottishPower Renewables. Siemens previously supplied this partner with wind turbines with a total capacity of 389 MW for the West of Duddon Sands project in the Irish Sea.
– Siemens has also received an order for the supply, installation and commissioning of 60 of its direct-drive offshore wind turbines rated at 6 MW for the Arkona project in the Baltic Sea and due to come online in 2019. The customer is a consortium of German power company E.ON, and the Norwegian oil and gas company Statoil. E.ON will have responsibility for building and operating the wind farm. Siemens and E.ON will be jointly responsible for service to the wind turbines for an initial two year period.
