Energy from waste facility

Mercia, which is a 50/50 joint venture between FCC Environment Services (UK) and Urbaser, signed a waste management services PFI Contract with the councils of Herefordshire and Worcestershire in December 1998 for 25 years.

HZI said the Hartlebury plant, which was granted planning permission in July 2012, represents the new generation of EfW facilities that are part of the existing sustainable waste management.

The single line facility is capable of achieving a net power export of about 18MW, which will serve around 43,000 homes in the region.

HZI has selected the construction division of Interserve as subcontractor for the civil components of the facility.

FCC and Mercia project director Gillian Sinclair said, "FCC Environment, as part of Mercia, is very pleased to continue the successful partnership of our two companies and the Hartlebury facility will be the fourth project with HZI."

HZI CTO Katsuhisa Tsuji said, "The strength of HZI to provide overall optimised solutions based on thorough technology know-how and complex project management experience has led to this most recent success."
