The new full-scope combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) power plant simulator is primarily designed to train operators on the intricacies of the latest GT26 gas turbine controls used at RWE’s Staythorpe and Pembroke power stations.

In addition, the simulator will be used to develop distributed control system (DCS) engineers, graduates, power technicians and non-operational staff.

RWE project manager Geoff Carr said, "GSE’s simulator will enable our people to enhance their understanding of plant control philosophy and operation, which will expand their operating experience, confidence and accuracy."

Developed with support from ABB, the simulator is expected to provide a full-scope custom training solution modeled on the actual plant, plant systems and control systems of both of RWE’s GT26 plants.
