A joint federal and provincial government review panel has recommended the approval of the Little Bow dam/Highwood diversion project in Southern Alberta, Canada.

The main feature of the project is a 25m high zoned earthfill dam. This will be constructed on the Little Bow river near Champion and will impound a 67,000m3 capacity reservoir. The construction of the dam is expected to provide a reliable water supply as well as provide water for future irrigation development. In addition to the runoff from its own watershed, the water supply to the new reservoir will be augmented by diverting water from the adjacent Highwood river basin. For this purpose the existing Little Bow Canal diversion structure on the Highwood river, near the town of High River, is to be enlarged. The flood facilities at the dam include a gated spillway and an emergency spillway.
