UES reportedly excluded from bidding for small hydro and districos

The Georgian regional electricity distribution company and the nation’s small hydro stations are reportedly to be privatised under the terms of a recently unveiled proposal. Unified Energy System of Russia will apparently be excluded from bidding for the assets as it already owns significant assets in the country, including the Tbilisi power grid and a large power station near the capital.

The privatisation is expected to be completed by the summer for around $110 million. Since May 2003, the districo has been managed by PA Consulting in order to prepare the company for privatisation, although this was not expected to happen for several years.
