Gasification technology developed by GE has been licensed for the expansion of a chemical plant owned and operated by Shaanxi Shenmu Chemical Industry, of Yulin City, Shaanxi Province, China.

GE signed the licensing agreement with Shenmu Chemical and Shaanxi Huashan Chuangye Science & Technology Development Co that will see the gasification technology installed at the Yulin plant to produce about 2.5 million m3/d of syngas.

The new gasification plant—Phase II of the project—will use local coal as fuel to produce 400,000 tonnes of methanol per year. It is expected to begin commercial operation in 2007.

The deal marks the sixth licensing agreement since GE Energy acquired Chevron Texaco’s gasification technology in June 2004.
