GE Energy is to supply a Frame 9E gas turbine and maintenance services for the Thyna II power plant, located 10km from Sfax, in southern Tunisia.

The 123 MW simple cycle project will be owned and operated by Société Tunisienne d’Electricité et du Gaz (STEG).

The turbine is due for delivery to Tunisa’s second largest city by the fourth quarter of 2006, with commercial operation expected in June of 2007.

Natural gas will be the primary fuel, although the machine has dual-fuel capabilities.

Civil works and erection of the plant will be handled by a local subcontractor. GE and STEG have also signed a 10 year service agreement.
