As per the agreed terms, the company will supply, install and commission 75 Gamesa G97 2.0 MW wind turbines in five 30MW wind farms that will be constructed in the town of Campo Formoso in Bahia state.

The installation of the wind turbines is expected to begin in the second half of 2014 and will be completed by the first half of 2015.

In addition, Gamesa will handle operations and maintenance at all five wind farms for a period of 15 years.

Commenting on the deal, Gamesa Southern Cone Region regional director Edgard Corrochano said that the deal strengthens the company’s commitment to Brazil.

Atlantic Renovaveis do Brasil managing director Marcelo Marder said, "this project consolidates our company as one of the country’s leading energy players and marks the start of a firm and committed long-term relationship with Gamesa.

"We believe in Gamesa’s technology and its ability to deliver, thanks to its local presence".

The wind farms are expected to create 870 direct and indirect jobs during the construction phase.

When operational, the plants will generate around 727,000 MWh energy, enough to power 297,000 Brazilian households annually, and reduce over 215,000 tons of carbon.
