Power producer Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV) has signed power purchase agreements (PPAs) with Southern California Edison (SCE) for four solar photovoltaic projects in Los Angeles and Kern counties in the US.

FRV plans to finance, develop, construct, own and operate the facilities, which will have a combined generating capacity of 120MW.

The PPAs include one 60MW and two 20MW solar installations in Kern County, and one 20MW installation in Los Angeles County.

The solar power projects are expected to start commercial operations in 2013.

SCE vice president of renewable and alternative power Marc Ulrich said that utility-scale solar is an important element in reaching California renewable energy goals.

"FRV will help SCE continue to be the largest purchaser of solar power in the US," Ulrich said.
