Alstom is to supply the steam turbine for Electricité de France’s (EdF) new European Pressurised Water Reactor (EPR) power plant, under development at Flamanville in France.

The company will supply the turbine island in a contract worth €350 million and will carry out the engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning of the complete power island at the 1,750 MW plant. Alstom will also supply all the major turbine island components, including Arabelle steam turbine, generator, condenser and moisture separator reheaters.

Arabelle turbines are installed in four 1,550 MW units in EdF plants in Chooz and Civaux, and are currently being installed in the extension of Ling Ao power plant in China. However, the Arabelle turbine at Flamanville will be the biggest ever built.
