According to a new study from moneysupermarket.com, UK energy consumers who are struggling with the rising cost of power should turn to the internet to ease their troubles.

<p>The financial comparison website has issued the advice because, according to its research, UK customers could save up to GBP200 per year by simply switching to an energy provider&#0039;s internet tariff.<br /><br />Moneysupermarket.com says that British Gas standard rate tariff customers would save GBP199.85 by switching to its online deal. <br /><br />Providers offer discounted rates for online customers because the cost to administer such accounts is lower. The customer manages much of the facilities themselves, while payments are made by direct debit, which removes the expense of issuing paper bills.<br /><br />And, in what is a much needed dose of positive PR for the company, the researchers found that British Gas&#0039; online tariff is currently the cheapest available, with ScottishPower holding second place.</p>
