Eniram has signed an agreement with ABB, a power and automation technology group, to integrate Eniram's pod optimization technology into the ABB's Azipod propulsion system for new build vessels as well as retrofit projects.

The companies said that the combined solution creates opportunity for further fuel and emissions efficiencies.

The pod optimization, based on Eniram’s Vessel Management System (VMS) will enable ship operators sailing Azipod propelled vessels to make further increases on fuel savings already realized using traditional Azipod systems.

Eniram CEO Philip Padfield said that with rising fuel costs and energy efficiency measures high on the agenda, shipping operators are under increasing pressure to maximize performance in all fields of vessel operations.

ABB Marine and Cranes Business Unit head Heikki Soljama said that by incorporating Eniram’s VMS into ABB’s Azipod units, the company further improve on fuel efficiency and provide the shipping community with the most advanced propulsion solution in the market.
